圣诞树是圣诞节的一个象征，告诉我们基督来到世上，给我们带来救恩。以上是教宗向比利时瓦隆尼亚（Vallonia）地区的代表团所讲的话。放置在圣伯多禄广场上，马槽旁边的圣诞树是来自该地区，约有30米高的红云杉木，今天下午正式亮灯。教宗说，这棵树为全球带来一个象征，正如基督徒的临在，透过见证，应当为全世界带来耶稣诞生的喜讯，祂从罪行与邪恶中拯救我们。
