教宗在公开接见中，很自然与兴奋地表示，他即将到葡萄牙访问，他说：“我很高兴可以到访圣母的地方。”事实上，下周二，教宗应葡萄牙主教团的邀请到访该国。历来这处与罗马主教结下不解之缘。这次又适逢法蒂玛两位牧童方济各（Francisco）与雅琴达（Jacinta）列为真福十周年。教宗说：“我热切地问候所有人，没有任何人例外，很快在里斯本、法蒂玛和波尔图见面。”
