教宗本笃十六世接见马耳他骑士团大教长。这是天主教会其中一个最古老的宗教组织，在 1048年建于耶路撒冷，成立部队的原因是维护信仰，并为受苦者服务。目前组织在120国家从事医疗和人道救援工作，帮助与104国家建立外交关系；又经营医院、医疗中心、救护车、成立老人院、残疾中心和善终服务。这个组织以志愿身份提供及时和紧急救援与社会性服务。
