(1). 他说:“the Holy See actually negotiate with a very, very small group of people from that (huge) structure (of chinese republic). So it is quite difficult to understand what the impact is, or what they take back to Beijing or what we bring to Beijing.”(恐怕他想说 “what we bring to Rome”?)中梵谈判只「在某一等级」。
(3). 他说:“you have to ask what effect a statement is going to have. I don’t think that grandstanding statements can be terribly effective.” 你作一声明时该问这声明会有什么效果。我不以为一些大声指摘的言论会有什么了不起的效果。
但(一)教廷不还是作了这样的「言论」吗?(见上)
(二)如果要期望有好效果才作出声明,那末教廷真的几乎什么也不该说了。
(三)而且:什么是好效果,什么是坏效果?按信德的角度还是按世俗的利害?
(四)圣经不是说真理常该宣讲的吗(不论合时不合时 opportune et importune)?!
(五)对缅甸政府的指摘未必会见效,但对中国和香港的缄默却重重伤了无数忠诚信友的心!
(4). 他说:“democracy has different forms…democracy gets into difficulties if that culture is very superficial.” 民主能有不同方式,如果某地方的文化肤浅,民主会有问题。
难道他以为香港还不配有民主??
(5). 他说:“Catholic community (in H.K.) in itself is significantly divided” 教廷不易任命香港主教,因为香港内部也分裂。
(6). 他说:“the responsibility (for the appointment of the Bishop) is with the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.” 他不知香港几时有新主教,因为任命香港主教是传信部处理的。
