教宗方济各于5月5日上午在梵蒂冈克莱孟大厅接见了瑞士卫队及其亲友。教宗说，“瑞士卫队因着独特的服务，蒙召向所有前来梵蒂冈参观圣伯多禄大殿和拜会教宗的人，作出安详且喜乐的基督信仰见证。”因此，瑞士卫队应当拥有“坚定的信德和慷慨的爱德”。
教宗最后感谢瑞士卫队的服务说：“我每天都能体验到你们在我身边的奉献与热忱。为此，我向你们致以万分感激！”
