5月7日周五，教宗本笃十六世接见格鲁吉亚（Georgia）总统萨卡什维利（Mikhail Saakashvili）。会晤中大家答应面对多样的双边问题，并突出格鲁吉亚的生活条件；又重新双方努力促进文化之间的交流；更特别承认明爱机构为整个国民在人道工作上所做的贡献；也鼓励谋求不同宗教信徒的和平，促进大众的利益。有关当地的情况，大家都希望透过对谈与协商解决每一个共同关注的问题。
