教宗方济各2月8日接见旅居意大利的斯里兰卡信友团体，表示欣然接受科伦坡总主教兰吉特枢机的邀请，访问这个国家。这个信友团体当天在圣伯多禄大殿参加弥撒，纪念将斯里兰卡教会献给圣母玛利亚75周年。斯里兰卡经历过泰米尔虎分裂运动与政府军对峙的战争年代。教宗表示："与过去的对手一起建设未来，不是件容易的事，但这是唯一能给予未来希望，对发展及和平的希望道路。
